Atheismus hat eine herkömmliche Bedeutung sowie eine systematisch weitergefasste. Im ersten Fall meint Atheismus die Verneinung der Existenz Gottes bzw. der Sinnhaftigkeit religiöser Orientierung. Der zweite Fall ist komplizierter, da sich das, was im Atheismus konkret verneint wird, gewandelt hat beginnend mit der spezifischen Absage an dogmatische Lehrstücke bis hin zur umfassenden Religionskritik. Dabei hat schließlich auch die Theologie selbst versucht, ein produktives Verhältnis zum Atheismus zu gewinnen, indem Bestandteile dieser Gegenposition in die Architektur des Glaubens integriert werden.

• Gotteslehre

Atheism has both a conventional meaning and a more broadly defined systematic one. In the first case, atheism refers to the denial of God’s existence or the denial of the meaningfulness of religious orientation. The second case is more complex: What, specifically, is being denied in atheism has evolved, ranging from the specific rejection of dogmatic doctrines to a comprehensive critique of religion. In the course of this development, theology as well has sought to establish a productive relationship with atheism by integrating elements of this opposing position into the architecture of faith.
